ToggleI Was About to Drop Out of Law School
How academic probation, Tim Ferriss, one blog, and a random bookstore trip eventually led me to build a lawyer marketing agency.
In 2008, I was on academic probation at the University of Houston Law Center and seriously considering dropping out of law school.
At the time, I was working full-time at NASA Johnson Space Center as a structural test engineer during the day and going to law school at night. I was exhausted, frustrated, and starting to wonder whether I had made a terrible mistake.
Then I walked into a bookstore, picked up The Four Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss, opened it to a random page, and read a sentence that changed the trajectory of my life:
Reality is largely negotiable.
That idea hit me hard because I did not like my reality at the time. I had followed the traditional path. I had gone to school, worked hard, earned degrees, joined respected institutions, and still felt stuck.
That moment did not magically fix everything. But it did open a door in my mind. It introduced me to entrepreneurship, blogging, internet marketing, and the possibility that I did not have to ask permission to build the life I wanted.
From Law School Doubt to Internet Marketing
After reading The Four Hour Workweek, I took a short break from law school and started experimenting online. I created a blog, wrote about my life, and discovered something that completely fascinated me:
You could type an idea into the internet, publish it, and cause something to happen in the real world.
That sounds normal now. But at the time, it felt like magic.
I could write something online, people could read it, and real opportunities could come from it. That insight became one of the most important lessons of my life.
Why This Matters for Law Students
If you are a law student on academic probation, burned out, or wondering whether law school was a mistake, I understand that feeling.
This video is not me telling you what to do. It is not me telling you to quit. It is not me telling you to stay. It is simply the story of how one bad season in law school became the beginning of a completely different future.
Sometimes the setback is not the end of the story. Sometimes it is the moment that forces you to ask better questions.
How This Eventually Became a Lawyer Marketing Agency
After law school, I worked in law firms and started noticing something important:
A lot of lawyers knew how to practice law, but very few knew how to get clients.
That observation changed everything.
I had already been experimenting with blogs, websites, search engine optimization, email marketing, online publishing, and digital media. Eventually, I started reaching out to attorneys I knew and offering to help them with their marketing.
That became the foundation for my lawyer marketing agency.
Today, my work is focused on helping lawyers and law firms grow through lawyer marketing, attorney SEO, Google Business Profile optimization, Local Service Ads, video marketing, short-form content, long-form YouTube content, and digital PR.
What Lawyers Can Learn From This Story
The lesson for lawyers is simple: clients do not magically appear just because you are good at your work.
You need visibility. You need trust. You need authority. You need a system for attracting the right clients before they ever contact your firm.
That is why modern law firm marketing is no longer just about having a website. Lawyers need to build a real online presence across search, video, social media, reviews, local search, and authority-building content.

Final Thought
